Valencia - MYR Plaza Mercado & Spa Hotel Review
MYR Plaza Mercado & Spa is a hotel rated 3* on its website, but some of the hotel booking sites consider it a 4* hotel - from my opinion, it does deserve a 4* rating. It is a modern small hotel located right in the middle of the old town of Valencia opposite the central market, which makes it a great base for exploring. It is very easy to get to from the airport - just about 10 minutes walk from the metro station Xativa.
MYR Plaza Mercado & Spa building
MYR Plaza Mercado & Spa has 25 suites - it opened in January 2016, so everything is still new and shiny. Each room is equipped with a kitchenette (plates, glasses, cutlery and pans included). There is a small cooker, a microwave, a fridge and a kettle, so you can easily have a meal or two in the room if you get tired of eating out. There is also a small dishwashing set with a sponge and dishwashing liquid; however, no kitchen towels (paper or cloth), which we found quite inconvenient. There wasn't a rack to dry the dishes on either.

The rooms are very spacious, with comfy wide beds, a lounger and a breakfast table with two chairs. I loved the lighting as well as the modern light switches. Other modern day conveniences were A/C, safe, free wifi and a large smart TV.
Worried about the busy area around the market, I asked for a quiet room and got exactly that - the room was facing a small enclosed yard in the back and no outside noise was present apart from the distant church bells. Definitely no problems falling asleep. The noise inside the hotel is a different matter though - when the cleaners rocked up in the mornings, the door did nothing to insulate, so everything could be heard and acted as a wake-up call. What is more, the cleaners were so eager to get into the room that on 2 days they knocked in spite of the 'do not disturb' sign on the door, which kind of defeats the point of having a 'do not disturb' sign.
The bathroom was lovely - just like the rest of the room, it was very modern with great water pressure and a lovely rainfall shower. No problems at all there.

The hotel also has a spa, which we didn't have time to visit. It is small and we were advised to book in advance at reception to avoid disappointment.

And speaking of reception, the lady there was always extremely friendly and helpful, so a big thank you to her for making our stay great!

PS - I would recommend buying bottled water for making tea, the tap water tastes funny. I don't think it's an issue with the hotel, as it also tastes funny in the cafes nearby.
