Valencia - Vincci Mercat Hotel Review
Vincci Mercat is a 4-star hotel located on a quiet street in the centre of Valencia a short walk away from the central market (hence the name, Mercat) and the main square, Plaza Ayuntamiento. If you are taking the metro from the airport, get off at Angel Guimera station and walk from there or, if you prefer smaller stations, you can go one stop further to Xativa and walk from there - it's only about 10 minutes from either station. The location of Vincci Mercat is perfect for exploring the old town of Valencia as well as for venturing further out - you've got 5 metro lines available at Angel Guimera station as well as the Valencia Nord train station also only 10 minutes away on foot, so if you are thinking about where to stay in Valencia, it's a good place to consider.

Some watchouts on the location though - spotted some ladies of the night frequenting the surrounding streets in the evenings and the Avinguda de l'Oest can get a bit dodgy when there's a weird sort of market on. There's also a large building site right next door. Mind you, those were the only drawbacks and the bits that lost the hotel a star - and it's not really the fault of the hotel management!
To make up for the drawbacks, there are some lovely cafes nearby; for example, there's a bakery the name of which evades me on the corner of Avinguda de l'Oest and Carrer de la Llanterna (where Vincci Mercat hotel is located), which sells delicious pastries and coffee at affordable prices. If that is full (which it often is), you can walk down Avinguda de l'Oest to a chain cafe called Panaria, which does sandwiches as well as pastries. There's also a small supemarket on Carrer de la Llanterna in case you want to get some snack or drinks to consume in the room.
Vincci Mercat hotel is very modern (which I love!) and one of the benefits of staying here is an awesome roof terrace with a small pool accessible to the guests free of charge. The building is not tall enough for far-reaching views in all direction, but you do get a bit of a view.
There's a bar area on the roof terrace, which isn't manned at all times, but you are able to buzz a waiter if you want to chill out with a drink. We were too busy sightseeing Valencia to make use of the terrace, but thought it was a cool feature to have! Even though we visited in late November and it wasn't that warm most days, the terrace was still open and available to use.

Now on to our Vincci Mercat room. We booked through a booking website and requested a quiet room in advance. The check in process was fast and efficient and we were allocated a room on the top floor facing onto a quiet residential street, so that was great (wouldn't want to be looking over that building site I mentioned above!).
The room was right opposite the elevator, which I was worried would make it noisy, but that wasn't the case at all. The elevator didn't make those annoying pings when it arrived and the internal and external noise insulation seemed to work well enough.

The bed was comfortable and the size or the room was perfectly fine. Though not as large as the room we had in MYR Plaza Mercado & Spa hotel (read the review here), it was spacious and more than enough for our needs, with a super modern bathroom, flat-screen TV, safe and a fridge minibar.
Another thing that swung my decision in favour of booking this hotel over others in the area is the traveller's holy grail of tea and coffee making facilities. I love being able to have a cup of tea in the room and wish hotels everywhere had a kettle and cups in the room as standard, but that just doesn't seem to be the case in Spain - so a massive tick for Vincci Mercat! Super handy to have that supermarket nearby as well to stock up on your favourite kind of tea and bottled water!

The room also has a thermostat, so you can adjust the temperature to be cool or warm according to your preferences.

As for the service, we didn't have breakfast or drinks at the hotel, so didn't interact with the restaurant staff, but the staff at reception were always friendly and polite.

So overall, it was a lovely stay and I have no qualms about recommending Vincci Mercat!
