Lanzarote - Sandos Papagayo Beach Hotel Review

Flight to Somewhere rating:
Sandos Papagayo Resort Lanzarote

The view over the hotel complex from the Playa Blanca promenade

This is a review of my first stay in Sandos Papagayo in a standard room. I also have a separate review of my second stay here in a Junior Suite and as Royal Elite guests.

Sandos Papagayo Beach Resort is a 4-star hotel located on the edge of Playa Blanca. I chose this hotel based on the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor and I am happy to say it's every bit as good as expected.

The location - the hotel is right on the seashore on the edge of Playa Blanca, which means that as you walk out of the hotel, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains and a short walk through the hills will take you to Playas Papagayo - gorgeous golden sand beaches between picturesque cliffs. There is also a promenade going along the sea to Marina Rubicon (about 15-20 minutes) and on towards the centre and the harbour of Playa Blanca (the walk to the harbour took about an hour). If you don't fancy walking, you can take the shuttle bus from the hotel or grab a taxi, which is cheap - the ride to the harbour is around €5.

The room - very spacious and modern with a wide bed and a big bath. The sea view from our balcony was amazing - there was nothing in the way, we could see Fuerteventura and watch the sunset over Playa Blanca in the evenings. It was also quiet and you could fall asleep to the sound of the waves.

The food was overall good! There was plenty of choice and the menu varied on a daily basis. Grilled fish and meat, lots of veg, international cuisine and some Canarian specialties, great Italian food, crepes in the afternoon. The melons and watermelons were absolutely delicious! However, lunches were not particularly exciting and the desserts, apart from the fruit, were not very tasty.

Overall - The hotel was clean and well looked after and had a very good atmoshere. The sofas in the lobby were comfy and inviting to sit down and relax. The staff were very friendly and what I thought was great was that the waiters in the restaurant were very child-friendly as well. Jacuzzis and saunas were a big added benefit, which we really enjoyed.
